A Sydney influencer has come under fire for a tone deaf Instagram post trying to boost subscriptions to her adult website during the Queensland flood crisis.

Former Love Island contestant Phoebe Thompson was left in tears on Tuesday after backlash over a bikini photo she posted on Instagram.

Thompson, 30, asked her followers to subscribe to her adults-only website while vowing to donate to flood disaster efforts but the gesture did not sit well with some, who slammed the post as “tacky”.

“That made me so upset, that made me cry,” Thompson said in an Instagram video.

“I am literally just trying to do the right thing.

“I’ve got friends and family that are in Queensland who are suffering from these floods

I just escaped from up north, that could’ve been me stuck in one of those situations.”

At least eight people have died and more than 15,000 homes have been damaged in the floods.

The former Channel 9 contestant addressed criticism about the revealing photo she posted and denied that it was “inappropriate”.

“That photo was f***ing amazing, I felt really good when I took that photo,” she said.

“Does she want me to put a photo up like now with a puffy face when I have pimple cream on?”

Thompson said the situation was reminiscent of Instagram sensation, Kaylen Ward, who raised $500,000 for the bushfire crisis two years ago, by offering nude selfies in exchange for donations.

“You can’t bloody win.. Damned if you do, damned if you don’t... I’m emotionally exhausted from social media,” she said.

“I just think like, if someone’s trying to do something nice then why be mean to them? She obviously had such a pure heart and loved animals, it was really sweet.”

In 2020, influencer Tammy Hembrow sparked outrage after sharing a racy bikini photo to promote a bushfire fundraiser and subsequently deleted her account.
