Peter Stefanovic a ‘tall glass of water’ says wife Sylvia Jeffreys

Sylvia Jeffreys couldn’t hide her adoration for journalist husband Peter Stefanovic at a screening of his new Sky News investigative project, Lawyer X.

SYLVIA Jeffreys has described journalist husband Peter Stefanovic as “a tall drink of water”.

Just over two years since the pair married in the Kangaroo Valley on April Fools’ Day in 2017, they seem as loved up as ever.

Stepping out for a screening of Stefanovic’s Sky News investigative series, Lawyer X, Jeffreys was keen to keep the focus on her husband.

“Look at that tall glass of water,” she said on arrival to the Foxtel screening in Sydney on Wednesday night.

“It is a terrific documentary … Pete is right in his element as a journalist in this kind of work and it is really terrific to see it.”

Lawyer X will screen on Sky News on Monday and Tuesday, looking at the real story behind Melbourne lawyer Nicola Gobbo, who represented the underworld’s biggest names all while working for the police as a secret informer.

Stefanovic, 37, earlier this month joined Sky News after seven months of what he described as “funemployment”.

As well as special projects like Lawyer X, he hosts First Edition each morning alongside Laura Jayes.

“It is terrific,” Jeffreys said of Stefanovic’s new gig at Foxtel. “It was always going to happen. He is so clever and so good at what he does and I think the best thing is that he has landed in a spot that he really belongs.”

Stefanovic’s funemployment started when he had his contract suddenly ripped up after 15 years at Nine while in Mexico celebrating older brother Karl Stefanovic’s wedding to fashion designer Jasmine in Mexico in December.

Days later, Nine ruthlessly dumped Karl from his co-hosting chair on Today, which has seen ratings plummet since his departure with a new team of Georgie Gardner, Deb Knight and Tom Steinfort.

Jeffreys was also moved from Today and is now stationed as a reporter with A Current Affair.

“It has been a good mid-career reset,” Stefanovic told Confidential earlier this month. “It was a weird time and a hard time, I can’t lie. Christmas was very strange last year because no one knew what was happening. I don’t want to sound preachy but I really feel like when times are tough, that is when you do your best living because you really find out about yourself and your strengths.”

As to her future, Jeffreys said: “Things are good. My life is chugging along nicely. I have got a few things in the works but it is all about him (Stefanovic) and where he is at tonight.”
