One woman’s love quest to make the Bachelor racier

The Big Dance took an unexpected twist when a talent scout took to crowds seeking out ‘talent’ for a revamped model of a classic dating show. Here’s what we saw.

Punters dress to impress in Sydney

Where better to find yourself an eligible mature bachelor than Royal Randwick Racecourse on one of the biggest days of the horse racing calendar?

Confidential was firstly bemused, then impressed after several of our colleagues were approached by a talent scout (pictured right holding her business card) looking for contestants to appear on the upcoming season of The Golden Bachelor.

As its name suggests, it is a spin-off of the long-time Bachelor and Bachelorette dating franchises but with the twist of featuring a cast of ‘senior citizens’ vying for love.

Nine has picked up the rights to The Golden Bachelor in Australia with former Sunrise presenter Sam Armytage to host when it premieres next year.

Confidential understands producers have been busy behind the scenes working on casting as they look to finalise their ‘Bachelor’ within the next few weeks.

The Big Dance is believed to have been the first major hunting ground they’d attended in search of their elderly man, and presumably female suitors.

The American version was a huge hit when it premiered last year and spawned a live TV special wedding between 72-year-old Bachelor Gerry Turner – a retired restaurateur and widower – and his chosen love, Theresa Nist, 70.

The couple divorced three months later.

A season of The Golden Bachelorette has been commissioned there too.

Previously in Australia, The Bachelor and Bachelorette have aired on Channel 10.

“I think you’re all going to love this. It’s love for the golden ages,” Armytage said in a video interview with Nine about her new hosting gig last month.

“When I got the call to join the show, I didn’t hesitate. (The Golden Bachelor) has been huge in America, and I have a feeling it’s gonna be huge in Australia, too.”
