NRL star James Tedesco is engaged to his longtime girlfriend, Maria Glinellis.
The Sydney Roosters captain, 28, announced the happy news on Instagram on Monday after he popped the question in his hometown of Menangle.
The couple shared photos of former University of Sydney student Glinellis’ diamond engagement ring after he surprised her with the romantic gesture.
“You make me the happiest girl now and forever. Thank you everyone for the beautiful messages,” she wrote.
Friends including former footy player Beau Ryan and cricketer David Warner have led congratulatory messages for the couple.
The pair has been dating for over a year and attended this year’s Dally M Medal together.
Tedesco was named the NRL’s best player at the 2019 Dally M Medal.
Last year, he said that friends and family help him stay grounded.
“I still stick really close to a lot of my friends outside of footy, that sort of keeps me grounded,” he told The Guardian.
“That’s how I am, I don’t really like to brag or big-note myself. I still feel like I’m a normal kid from Camden. That’s how I’ve always been and I don’t think that will ever change.”
