HOPING to cash in on the success of dating show The Bachelor, the Nine Network is set to announce it has commissioned its own matchmaking show, Love Island.
The program, on air in the UK, comes out of production house ITV, makers of I’m A Celebrity Get Me Out of Here, The Voice and game show The Chase.
Under the stewardship of David Mott, ITV’s producers are said to have chosen an island location for the series which will see about 12 couples transplanted from their homes and into an environment that is intended to be conducive to falling in love.
The UK version is shot in the resort of Mallorca, Spain.
Contestants on the show live in a resort where they are constantly under surveillance from cameras.
On day one, couples must “couple-up” or risk being evicted.
Insiders believe Nine will stick to a non-celebrity version of the show.
A Nine spokeswoman did not return Confidential’s call yesterday.
