NICOLE Trunfio’s famed breastfeeding image is even a hot topic in the US with the Australian model appearing on Good Morning America to talk about the now iconic cover image.

The new mum, who was snapped by Elle magazine breastfeeding her son, Zion, an image which went on to appear on the front of the glossy’s June issue, said she didn’t imagine the photograph would have the immense impact it did.

“I didn’t think it was going to be such a big deal,” Trunfio told GMA on Tuesday.

“There’s nothing worse than, as a mother, doing something that’s so necessary, like feeding your child, and feeling like somebody could have an opinion about it or somebody’s looking at you the wrong way.”

The 29-year-old told host Linsey Davis about how she would like to use the picture to normalise breastfeeding.

“It’s a huge part of being a woman and motherhood.”

Following the widespread interest in the image, Elle Australia editor-in-chief Justine Cullen was keen to communicate that the photograph was not simply a publicity stunt, instead a “completely natural moment”.

“This wasn’t a contrived situation. Zion needed a feed, Nicole gave it to him, and when we saw how beautiful they looked, we simply moved her on to the set,” Cullen said.

“It was a completely natural moment that resulted in a powerful picture.

Trunfio and her partner, US musician Gary Clark jnr, welcomed Zion into the world in January.
