Nick Kyrgios’ sister Halimah to appear on The Voice Australia

Nick Kyrgios’ sister, Halimah, is out to make a name for herself in a new television show, despite the shadow her brother can cast.

Halimah Kyrgios is used to being described as the sister of.

With brother Nick Kyrgios one of the top tennis players in the world, the singer and dancer is poised to make her mark in music as a contestant on reality singing show, The Voice.

“I feel like people expect all of our family to revolve around one thing but there are three of us and we are all in completely different industries,” Halimah told Confidential.

“We know how the majority of the world has painted a picture of the young man (Nick), whether he is a bad boy or he is a hero, it changes every day. Regardless of the fact that he is his own person and so am I, he carries a lot of representation for me and the family in general so people just assume we are all the same. To an extent we are when it comes to competition and drive.”

Halimah, 32, is one of three children to George and Nill. Her older brother, Christos, works in the fitness industry and helps run Nick’s NK Foundation.

They are from Canberra, although Halimah is currently living in Hong Kong. For as long as she can remember, people have assumed she could also play tennis.

“I used to enter tournaments and just the expectation of the name,” she said. “If I stuck to it, I probably would have been half decent but I just didn’t really take it seriously. I can definitely hit, I think that is in the family.”

Halimah’s inclusion on The Voice explains Confidential’s story earlier this year linking her tennis ace brother to chart topping coach Rita Ora, with the pair following each other on social media.

“I guess this has all been a taste of what my little brother goes through,” she said, adding of her style of music: “I am straight MT, a musical theatre girl. I enjoy singing all different styles but what I have trained in and what has been embedded in me since six years old is that classical MT sound.”

The aim, she said, whatever happens on The Voice, will be to incorporate her music and dance.

The Voice is scheduled to launch on Seven on Sunday, August 8.
