Nick Cody tells how being a ‘loose unit’ in the past made him a better parent
If you’re looking for philosophical comedy that makes you laugh then Nick Cody’s show is not for you. But if you want to laugh at a guy who has a strange fixation on bogan culture, could not care about politics and is a loose unit, then he is the man for you.
If you’re looking for philosophical comedy that makes you laugh then Nick Cody’s show is not for you this Sydney Comedy Festival.
But if you want to laugh at a guy who has a strange fixation on bogan culture, is completely honest about being a loose unit and could not care less about politics — make yourself available from May 9.
“There’s no theme, no political stuff it’s just fun,” he told Confidential.

Cody uses his own life in his sets for gags, and getting married and having a baby has obviously been a milestone, but forget the cringe cliches about being a new parent or married life — he focuses more on how partying has bettered his parenting.
“Being a loose unit in the past helps you be a parent,” he said.
“If you’ve partied before you’ve had kids it’s easier to parent because you’re used to being awake for long periods of time.
“People rush into having a kid thinking they have to do it, but I try to max out every aspect of my life before getting to that stuff.
“I’ve got a story about hanging out with bikies in the UK and doing crazy stuff — I’m glad I did that BEFORE I had a kid.
“I’m midlife crisis-proof. What am I going to do? The things I already did? Nah, I’m all right.”
Now in his 30s, Cody’s career is the strongest it’s been with the biggest stand-up tour he’s ever done — with plenty of sellout shows along the way — plus hosting Channel 9 show 20 to One alongside Erin Molan and a breakfast radio gig with Triple M.
But standing on a stage ranting like a random bloke whose on a roll at the pub will always be his true love.
“The thing I care about is stand-up,” he said. “It’s always been my favourite thing ever since I was a kid — the rest is just gravy.”
Cody’s show “Old Mate” plays at The Comedy Store May 9 — 12 as part of the Sydney Comedy Festival, which runs until May 22.
