NETWORK Ten let their celebrity contingent do the talking at last night’s annual programming launch.
While rival networks made comparatively low-key announcements of what’s to come in 2015, Ten last night threw a star-studded bash to create buzz around its shows.
The network is going to attempt a ratings comeback with reality TV shows including I’m A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here, MasterChef, The Bachelorette and new inventions and innovation series, Shark Tank.
In a joint venture with Foxtel, Ten will also air the UK reality and social media sensation Googlebox, which will see Australians watching other Australians watching TV.
Ten will push forward with two TV drama telemovies, Mary: The Making of A Princess, about Princess Mary of Denmark, and The Peter Brock Story.
It’s also the 30th anniversary of hit soap, Neighbours, with several high profile previous cast members expected to return to the TV drama throughout the year. Ten will also feature the likes of Kylie Minogue, Jason Donovan and Guy Pearce in a 30 Years special.
Show’s not flagged on the network’s 2015 slate were Party Tricks and Offspring.
Ten’s programming boss Beverley McGarvey said the reality genre had been “critical” to the network this year, gaining momentum from the success of The Bachelor and MasterChef, which will also return in 2015.
“Obviously we had some difficulty at the top of this year, early on but since MasterChef in May that’s really not been true,” McGarvey said.
“Next year, it’s about introducing new brands that fall broadly into that area and bringing back the established brands our viewers love.”
Among the talent who gathered at The Star Event Centre were MasterChef trio, Matt Preston, George Calombaris and Gary Mehigan.
Jess Tovey, Anna Bamford, Ben Mingay, Michael Dorman, Tracy Mann, Glenn McMillan, Simone Kessell flew the flag for popular drama series Wonderland.
For The Bachelor, Host Osher Gunsberg, and Bachelorettes Laurina Fleure, Chantal Hryniewski and Zoe O’Brien made an appearance.
Noticeable absentees were Blake Garvey and his new squeeze Louise Pillidge.
