Four flights between Melbourne and Sydney per week, being a single mum and living in the public sphere took its toll on Jodi Anasta, and she said she felt ashamed to admit she was exhausted.

Neighbours actor Jodi Anasta says she is now more aware of the signs her body is shutting down after she was forced to take exhaustion leave from her work.

Mid-June the 34-year-old took a three week break from filming as her character Elly on the long-running soap, which she has portrayed since 2016.

At a lunch celebrating her new role as a Runway Room Cosmetics ambassador, Anasta said she is now aware of the warning signs that may signify she is close to breaking point.

“It’s about being aware of how you’re travelling and focusing on how you’re functioning,” she told The Daily Telegraph.

“Being aware is half the problem — noticing when you’re run down and getting sick all the time.

“For me it starts with energy, depleted energy which makes it hard to focus.

“Feeling really sick and flat.”

Anasta, who lives at Darling Point, flies to Melbourne four time a week for filming, which she said takes a toll on her energy.

In addition she is a single mum, sharing her daughter Aleeia with ex-NRL player Braith Anasta.

On top of that she is B12 deficient and if her busy schedule causes her to miss an injection it can wreak havoc on her energy levels.

Like many Australians, Anasta said she felt ashamed to speak up for feeling exhausted because she knows how busy life is for most people, but now that the communication channels have been opened she feels confident she can prevent another break.

“(Channel 10) have been so supportive, it’s just about keeping an open line of communication — they can’t do anything if they don’t know about it,” she said.

“There is shame around being tired, there’s a pressure to just be OK.

“Everyone has their own thing going on but it’s just nice to speak out and be honest about how you’re feeling.”
