NBA star Ben Simmons and his family are devastated after recent abuse claims made by his older sister, Olivia, which have been denied by the family.
This week, a family feud erupted on Twitter after Olivia, 29, alleged she was sexually abused by her half-brother, Sean Tribe, who is also Ben’s manager, when they were both children.
However, sources close to the situation say Olivia’s abuse claims are entirely false and the result of her ongoing mental health struggles.
“There is no truth to this whatsoever. Olivia is dealing with a mental disorder and the family has been trying to get her help,” an insider told Confidential.
In a series of tweets, former Arizona State Sun Devils player, Olivia, claimed she was once suicidal and still struggles with mental health issues due to alleged abuse she suffered when she was 3 and Sean was 8.
“At the end of the day I was molested by my half brother for years from age 3. I’ve been asking for therapy but my family would rather sweep it under the rug because it could damage my brothers [sic] brand. I’m over hiding,” she tweeted.
Sean, 35, shared a statement from the family strenuously denying his sister’s claims.
“We are deeply saddened by the false allegations made on Twitter this week by our daughter and sister, Olivia Simmons, against her brother,” the statement read.
“The allegations she made never happened. Her brother and the entire family deny them.
“Unfortunately, Olivia has mental health issues and has been in and out of treatment for much of her life. We love her very much and our hearts break for her. Still, we do not understand why she would fabricate these allegations.”
Despite Olivia’s claims that the statement released by Sean is not from the Simmons family, lawyers acting on behalf of the family have confirmed its authenticity.
