EXCLUSIVE: Byron Bay for Naomi Watts

NAOMI Watts is madly catching up on the final episodes of Game Of Thrones after confirmation she is set to star in the prequel of the world wide hit.

It was revealed this week that the 50-year-old Aussie actress would play a “charismatic socialite hiding a dark secret”, in the series’ upcoming spin-off, which George RR Martin, who penned the books that inspired the series, let slip would be called The Long Night.

“I am catching up as I wasn’t all the way through, but I can tell you I am one of those avid fans,” the two-time Oscar nominee told Sunday Confidential.

“I still have some catching up to do though.”

When asked about the financially lucrative new gig, Watts remained tight lipped, however confirmed she had landed a sought-after lead role.

“There is nothing I can tell you except confirm that that news is correct,” she said.

“Everything is very top secret. “I am just thrilled to be part of such an incredible brand. I am excited. “I am a huge fan. It’s a great show.”

Mother-of-two Watts is set to touch down in Australia in coming weeks as the official McHappy Day ambassador, a cause she is proud to lend her celebrity name to.

“When you finally have children, you understand how difficult it was to even create them and then you just worry so much about them,” said Watts, whose brother Ben flipped burgers at Mosman McDonalds as a young kid.

“Their safety and their health are daily worries and really never leaves your mind.

Watts is urging Australians to go to their local Macca’s on Saturday November 17 to show their support.

“McHappy Day is vital in raising funds for the charity and since it first started in Australia in 1991, McHappy Day has raised more than $42 million for RMHC,” she said.

“This year we’re hoping to raise more than ever before.”
