MUSICIAN and designer Harvey Miller hopes Bindi Irwin and Mike Whitney will grace the front row at Client Liaison’s Wednesday night Fashion Week show.
The designer and one half of indie-pop group Client Liaison said invitations had gone out to the well-known Australians, but neither had confirmed their attendance.
“We’ve invited our heroes, there are a few sportspeople we invited and we’re hoping to get people from the TV and animal sectors,” he told fashion writer Elle Halliwell.
“We’re looking for all grades of celebrities, from A to Z grade.”
Co-founder Monte Morgan said the Irwin’s were a big inspiration for the pair.
“We’re looking to work with her (Bindi) in the future, because we’re very passionate about flora and fauna, and Bob Jr as well, he’s really come of age, doing all the US talk shows and stepping out of his dad’s shadow.”
The duo’s facetious comments are in line with their colourful, divisive fashion brand, which they say was inspired by notorious ‘80s businessman Christopher Skase and his wife Pixie.
One of the collections hero pieces is The Skase sweater, which was based on an outfit the corporate criminal was photographed in at a tennis tournament.
“The collection has a late afternoon theme,” explained Miller. Another design is a women’s jumpsuit featuring a frill-necked lizard, Champagne glasses and wattle.
The kitsch references and strong retro themes are not surprising considering the pair’s music, which is strongly influenced by the decade.
“The ‘70s, ‘80s and ‘90s are the eras that inform our music, so we had great resources for our inspiration,” said Miller.
