Katoomba’s award-winning beer Mountain Culture Beer Co is coming to the big smoke.
After launching in 2019 and opening sites in Katoomba and then Emu Plains, Mountain Culture Beer Co is opening up their third venue in Redfern.
Founded by husband and wife team Harriet and DJ McCready, the beer has become Australia’s fourth largest independent brewery and is a two-time winner of the crowd voted GABS Hottest 100.
Mountain Culture will move into the old Atomic Brewery site in Redfern, which permanently shut its doors in September. Atomic joined a list of brewery’s that have gone bust which include Brisbane-based Ballistic Beer Company, Adelaide business Big Shed Brewing, Melbourne-based Hawkers Brewery and Deeds Brewery, and the Wayward brand and Akasha Brewery, both from Sydney.
Despite the beer industry facing troubled times, the founders of Mountain Culture believe they’ve been able to withstand the turbulence because of their growth at scale.
“We already have two awesome venues in Katoomba and Emu Plains so it was a big call to open a third. We have always said that we only want to grow if it makes Mountain Culture better in some way, not just for the sake of it. Like, when we grew our brewing capacity by adding our production facility in Emu Plains, we did it because it meant we could access better technology and ingredients to make our beer taste even better. With this venue, it was the same kind of thinking - we have a lot of incredible customers and loyal fans in Sydney and our new bar will allow us to better serve both,” said Harriet.
The couple hope Mountain Culture Redfern will become the ultimate craft beer destination in Sydney.
“Our vision is that this will combine to create a destination where people can seek out the best beer in the country, but also everyone can have a really great time,” she said.
“We’re expecting our Status Quo Pale Ale tap to be pretty popular cos it was voted the best beer in the country, but we’ll also have more than 16 taps of constantly rotating cool beers coming straight out of our innovation program pouring, too.”
The venue will open on November 21, 2024.
