More celebrities may appear on The Block after model Elyse Knowles and partner joined cast

IS AN all-celebrity cast of The Block in the works? The show’s creator and executive producer says he would consider it after many well-known names, including model Elyse Knowles, applied.

IS AN all-celebrity cast of The Block in the works? The show’s creator and executive producer Julian Cress exclusively revealed to Confidential he would consider it after casting agents were surprised by how many well-known names applied to be on this season of the show, which resulted in model Elyse Knowles being chosen.

“There were some people who were well known on radio and people who were well known in sport who applied. That happens a lot,” Cress said.

More than 10,000 people applied to be in the series that sees five rundown period houses which have been rescued from demolition and transported to the Melbourne suburb of Elsternwick being transformed into luxury homes. Many of these were recognisable names.

When asked who we’d love to see on the show, Cress suggests former Carlton ­player Chris Judd and wife Rebecca would be perfect.

“I reckon they’d do great — she’s got great style. But would they be willing to leave their children and sleep on the floor of a dusty old floor for three months,” he said.

“Anyone who has ever been on the show will say it’s the hardest thing they’ve ever done in their lives. There is no way you get through three months of the block without cracking a fart in front of the camera and I can tell you Elyse has done that more than once.”

However Cress, who is now into the show’s 13th season, ­denies Knowles and her partner Josh Barker were selected to spice up the show.

“The fact Elyse comes to the show with a significant following doesn’t hurt, but it didn’t help her get on the show.”

He said their celebrity status, and her more than 600,000 Instagram followers, won’t give them any advantage in the competition, citing the results of previous former AFL player Darren Jolly and wife Dee.

“Darren and Dee … came last. And Chris and Jenna from NSW who knew nothing about Melbourne made $350,000.”
