JESINTA Franklin isn’t one to speak out on issues unless she feels passionately about them. So when it comes to marriage equality, she isn’t just getting on the bandwagon.
The model and television presenter wife of Sydney Swans star Lance “Buddy” Franklin is one of several prominent Australian public figures to support the Australian marriage equality campaign Until We All Belong, spearheaded by Airbnb in the latest issue of Marie Claire magazine.
“To be honest, as an Australian who travels so much, it makes me feel so ashamed of my country,” Franklin, 25, told the magazine which is on sale on Thursday.
“People are constantly saying ‘I can’t believe you don’t allow gay marriage’ and all I can do is agree.
“It’s embarrassing.”
Also supporting the Until We All Belong campaign for marriage equality are Adam Goodes, Carla Zampatti, Waleed Aly, Asher Keddie and Gemma Ward.
Franklin, who has two gay aunts, wed her sports star husband last year and officiated over the wedding of two close friends earlier this year.
“It was a huge honour,” Franklin said.
“But it also brought a lot of sadness because their marriage won’t be legally recognised.”
