SEAFOLLY has launched a new swimwear line just months after dumping Megan Gale’s Isola range — and the two labels bear an uncanny resemblance.
Seafolly ended its relationship with the Australian model late last year after being purchase by L Capital Asia, which wanted to turn the swimwear brand into a global lifestyle label.
Despite local success that has seen it make millions of dollars in revenue annually, it was unable to go international with Isola due to trademark problems, particularly in the US, one of its major targets.
So Seafolly seems to have instead launched a new line branded Milea, and has enlisted Aussie beauty Elyse Taylor as its muse.
“This is the launch of the brand Milea in Australia and obviously there are ambitions to go global with this,” Mathew Hayward, chief marketing officer of Seafolly said.
“It has been created as a global resort-wear range.
“And we chose Elyse because of her global reach and because of the lifestyle she leads. Younger women look at her and can be inspired by her and more mature women look at her and can relate, so she is a perfect bridge for all age groups.”
The face of the brand, Taylor said being associated with Seafolly and Milea was an honour. “You grow up wearing Seafolly and so to be a part of Milea is so incredible,” Taylor said.
When asked whether Milea was a direct replacement of Gale’s Isola range, Hayward dodged the questions and said: “It stands on its own. It is from the Seafolly group with a completely new focus and agenda. This is completely new.’’
Gale has retained full ownership over the Isola brand, which was sold in 100 stores nationally and made $4 million in sales in the 2015 financial year.
She plans on partnering with a new investor to reinstate the popular label.
