After struggling with painful acne for years, model Elyse Knowles has revealed the simple way that she was able to finally achieve clear skin.
The season 13 winner of The Block told Confidential that avoiding sugar and using organic products throughout her pregnancy has drastically improved her complexion.
“As I’m pretty accustomed to phases of problematic skin, I wasn’t overly concerned that pregnancy would bring on anything I hadn’t seen before,” she said.
“Since falling pregnant, I feel it’s been totally manageable. I’m experiencing a little patchiness and hyperpigmentation, however as that’s so common in pregnancy it hasn’t phased me.
“If anything, pregnancy has been a really happy time. I’ve enjoyed the slowness and surrendered myself to more quiet time as I know my body needs the extra rest.
“I think these past few months have been a bit of a mental detox so my skin seems to be less inflamed and aggravated.
“Don’t get me wrong, I still get spots and I have to avoid sugary temptations where possible as sugar brings on my pimples. But for the most part, pregnancy has helped my mind and body, including my skin feel relaxed and at peace.”
In 2018, Knowles, 28, was hailed by fans for sharing unfiltered photos of her painful acne on Instagram.
“We all need to be vulnerable and honest at particular points in our lives. It’s not about attracting attention, it’s about being human and reminding ourselves that we all battle with different things from time-to-time,” she wrote at the time.
“My battle with skin has been ongoing and constant. While it may not look pretty, it’s real. I’m accepting it more and more, but would love to knock them out of the park.”
The Byron Bay local has been using vegan skincare products for six months, which she said has transformed her once problematic skin.
The Maaemo ambassador is set to welcome her first child with boyfriend Josh Barker in coming weeks.
