The couple continued, saying it was “every parents worst nightmare” to have a sick child.

“When it has to do with breathing, you don’t think twice, you just take them to the hospital so that is what we did,” she explained. “It is about managing it now.”

Meanwhile, Clarke, who took home the GQ Legend Award, praised the banned trio of Cameron Bancroft, Steve Smith and Dave Warner’s acceptance of their ban.

He did however call into question how the situation arose that they can play in other countries domestic competitions but have been limited to playing grade cricket in Australia.

“What I would like to see is a transition into how we get Australian cricket back to where it belongs. Whatever decisions are being made now, it is time to get the game back to being a game that all Australians love.”

With the Australian cricket team surging into the semi finals of the women’s T20 World Cup in the West Indies, Clarke backed the calls for women specific cricket gear and, in particular, shoes as the game continued to gain in popularity.

“I think it is a good call,” he said, laughing as he added: “maybe not heels.”
