Former Channel 7 host Melissa Doyle will host a new series on Channel 9, the broadcaster has confirmed.
The former Sunrise star will host a new show called Australia Behind Bars, which takes a look at the impact of Covid-19 on correctional facilities.
But in a statement to Confidential, a Channel 9 spokeswoman said Doyle was not joining the network full-time.
“The program is produced by an independent company and yes Melissa Doyle is the host on it — she is not joining 9 as a full time employee,” she said.
Filming has already wrapped after being shot in three prisons across NSW before lockdown.
ITV Studios — which is home to shows such as The Voice and I’m a Celebrity … Get Me Out of Here — is said to be producing the show.
It comes one year after Doyle, 51, announced her departure from Channel 7 after 25 years with the network telling fans at the time: “I’m excited for what comes next”.
Doyle began as a newsreader for Seven News during the mid 90s before hosting Today Tonight and later worked her way up to become a co-host of Sunrise before being replaced by Samantha Armytage.
In 2015, she began hosting Sunday Night but the show was eventually axed.
