Melinda Schneider farewells Hollywood icon Doris Day
Multiple Golden Guitar winner Melinda Schneider has been a Doris Day fan since she was a little girl and now she’ll remember the iconic star one last with a new national tour.
For celebrated Australian singer Melinda Schneider, Doris Day will be remembered as a pioneer for women.
While known as a Hollywood leading lady, there was a deeper side to the movie star Schneider admired.
“She wasn’t just sweetness and light and the girl next door, she did have four husbands,” multiple Golden Guitar winner Schneider told Confidential.
“Doris Day was in charge of her career and her sexuality really. She wasn’t the prude that some people would have thought she was, she was married four times. She was a survivor. She survived all of her co-stars, all of her husbands and she survived bankruptcy.”
Schneider has released two albums of Doris tracks — Melinda Does Doris and Melinda Does Doris Again — and will hit the road with her A Farewell to Doris tour next month.
Day of course died at the age of 97 in May.
“I was very sad when I heard she had passed because I thought she would make it to 100 because she has really outlived everybody.”
Schneider, who has been a fan of Day since the age of eight seeing her in Calamity Jane, will play the Sydney Opera House Concert Hall on September 2 and will be joined by the 20-piece Young At Heart Orchestra and will perform songs including Que Sera, Everybody Loves A Lover and Secret Love.
