Meet some of the WAGS of the 2018 NSW Blues Origin team

NSW is hoping the “Baby Blues” can win the Origin series this year. But who are the glamorous WAGS who support them behind the scenes? Let’s meet some of them. And ladies, there is one very eligible bachelor in the team who is still single.

THEY are a diverse bunch who work in law, radiography and construction.

The women behind the new look Baby Blues come from a range of backgrounds.

Shock horror, there is even a Queenslander among the WAGs of NSW’s State of Origin debutants.

Happily we can report she has converted and will be supporting the Cockroaches in Melbourne next week. Kat Hubner jumped ship after she started dating Tom Trbojevic last year.

“I was born in Queensland, but I am definitely converted now,” Hubner said.

“I wasn’t a big league fan before Tom and I dated, but I always watched Origin, there is a real social aspect to the game. My family have all had a talking to and I think everyone is on the same page now supporting New South Wales.”

Hubner, who works in administration at a construction company and is a budding foodie, and Trbojevic were out at a family dinner when he got the call confirming his spot on the team. “It was nice to be all together when the call came in,” she said.

Elle Marie Vaughan started dating her now husband Paul at school in Year 10 and, like him, has been dreaming of Origin for years.

“Making the team is just awesome. When you have been through it all together, it is such an amazing moment,” Elle Marie said.

“We have been through it with friends before so it is exciting to now being going through it.

“It is pretty crazy that he will be there next week.”

The pair also got married in January this year, so his selection has continued what is shaping to be a very good year at the Vaughan home.

A member of the legal team at the University of Wollongong, Elle Marie is sharing the experience with good friend Alyce Taylor whose partner Jack De Belin also got his first call up to play for the Blues.

“I grew up in AFL territory, I have now become a league fan,” Taylor said.

“I am so stoked for him, it is so well deserved, but I am probably a bit biased.”

Other first time Origin WAGS include Damien Cook’s partner Courtney Blaine and Kellie Rose who is married to Tyrone Peachey.

Position vacant on rising star’s support team

NOT all the young NSW Origin stars are off the market.

Origin newbie Nathan Cleary is being tagged as the most eligible bachelor in the Blues.

While many of his team mates are in serious relationships, young star Cleary is understood to be living the single life.

Hailed by many good judges as a potential future great of the game, Cleary last year became the youngest player to top NRL pointscoring table.

The 20-year-old is also considered one of the most down-to-earth and well-rounded players currently in the NRL.

It probably helps that his father Ivan, the West Tigers coach, was a similarly level-headed force in the game during his playing days.

And it is to his father who the Panthers No. 7 will turn for advice in the lead up to the series opener at the MCG.

“I think I will speak to him throughout the week just to calm the nerves,” he said.
