THE ex-girlfriend of new Married At First Sight TV groom Sean Thomsen has come out swinging claiming she was shocked to find him on the ad for the love match-making show.
Mother-of-one Jasmine Pugh met Thomsen, 35, at a casino in 2016 before she became romantically involved with him.
Woman’s Day is reporting the pair were in a relationship for five months but things turned sour when she discovered him on a dating app.
“He was talking about us getting married and moving to Melbourne,” she told the magazine.
“I never suspected he wanted to apply for the show. I thought we were in love.
“He had a lot of trust issues, and because he was doing FIFO [fly in, fly out] work, he would go through my Facebook and text messages and accuse me of cheating on him.”
But Thomsen told the publication he became suspicious: “when I came across messages with other guys.”
Pugh told the magazine she had advice for his TV wife.
“Beware! He’s only in it for the fame,” she said.
Despite more than 24 couples taking part in the show since it started in 2015, only two have managed to keep their relationships going well after the cameras stopped rolling — season one’s Zoe and Alex, who now have a baby together, and season two’s Erin and Bryce who have rekindled their love.
It was revealed this month that the low success rate was something producers were hoping to rectify in the upcoming fifth season.
“The success rate is not as high as we’d like,” said executive producer Tara McWilliams. “However our objective is still as high as ever, which is to find relationships for these singles.”
This year matchmakers, John Aiken, Dr Trisha Stratford and Mel Schilling, have made a conscious effort to match couples who live in the same state. And with 5000 applicants — more than ever before — McWilliams said it has been easier to achieve.
