Fight breaks out on Love Island

ENIGMATIC Love Island narrator Eoghan McDermott said there is no chance he would ever appear on the reality dating show.

When asked whether he would like to be a contestant on the Channel 9 program, the Irish television and radio presenter said: ‘Oh god no. I am a little bit socially awkward. The idea of being socially awkward on the show and viewed by hundreds of thousands of strangers is not appealing to me.

“I prefer to sit in a room and pass discouraging remarks towards the people who do go on the show.”

It would seem the funnyman has the best job in the world, however this is a title he disputes.

“No, Sophie Monk) has the best job in the, she gets to just nip in and out,” he said of the show’s host.

“But I have also have a great job. The whole thing is wonderful. I get to make stupid jokes in a beautiful location with lovely people and everyone is working harder and longer than I am.”

While online chatter would suggest love rat Grant is the villain on the show, after having found himself in a love triangle, McDermott said he is actually one of his favourites.

“I think out of everybody Grant is an amazing case study for the show,” he said.

“When he was in the middle of the love triangle with Cassidy and Tayla, most people had a bad opinion of him, myself included. But now I just think he is relatable.

“I am fond of him now. He is a sweet guy. He was in a pressure cooker situation after having committed to one person early on, before realising he liked another person. He just didn’t express himself properly. But he really is a sweet and lovely guy.

McDermott also has a soft spot for Millie.

“She is coping a lot of flack online for testing the waters with everybody and committing to nobody. But that is the name of the show.”

As for the intellect of the overconfident group of islanders, the Irish funnyman said while they do appear to struggle with the English language, viewers should curb their criticism.

“I think there has been some very obvious bastardisations of the English language, but again it is all very sweet and if you want to sit at home and cast dispersions on peoples level of education, good luck to you. You are overlooking the really compelling side of the show which is their interactions and people forming relationships.
