Lisa Wilkinson and Karl Stefanovic reunite for first time since Today split on Channel Nine

The former Today hosts were all smiles in their first public appearance together since Lisa Wilkinson’s very public split from the Channel Nine breakfast show

Lisa addresses rumours about Logies 'fight' with Karl

Any bad blood between Karl Stefanovic and Lisa Wilkinson appears to have been put to bed.

The pair, who hosted the Today breakfast show for more than a decade, were reunited at an event today announcing the 2022 Logies nominees on the Gold Coast for the first time since she released a tell-all book that detailed her time at Channel 9.

Now at Ten and nominated for Most Outstanding News Coverage or Public Affairs Report for The Project – Brittany Higgins Interview, Wilkinson greeted Gold Logie nominee Stefanovic with smile and warm hug.

“It was lovely to see Karl, and a reminder to both of us of the many great years we spent together,” Wilkinson told The Daily Telegraph at the event at the Burleigh Pavilion on the Gold Coast.

Wilkinson didn’t hold back in her explosive memoir, It Wasn’t Meant To Be Like This.

In it, she spoke of the inequality women face in the media, particularly on television, and highlighted the pay gap between her and Stefanovic that led to her departure from the network.

Wilkinson also stated in the book that she did not feel supported by her co-host at times, but also said her time on Today was some of the most memorable of her career.

She wrote of Stefanovic pulling out of her wedding vow renewal after initially accepting the invite. Wilkinson famously called her co-host out for the snub on air.

“Karl knew I had cut him dead, something I had never done on or off air before,” the book read. “I was furious, possibly more at myself for having cared so much in the first place.”

In another paragraph of the book, she wrote: “What I felt in that instant was hard to put into words. More than anything, I felt just a little bit pathetic. What was this thing Karl and I had between us? I’d presumed that along with our work relationship, there was a friendship as well. I must have been wrong.

“For all the early starts, the ratings we’d worked so hard to claw back, the significant wins, the occasional disappointments, the hilarious on-air moments, the understanding we had of each other’s strengths and weaknesses, the confidences we’d shared, the chemistry magic even we didn’t quite understand … how could he still treat me with such uncaring disregard? Did I now finally know exactly where I stood with Karl?”

Wilkinson also wrote about Stefanovic’s very public marriage breakdown from ex wife Cassandra Thorburn, and his romance with now wife Jasmine.

Despite the perceived ongoing tensions, Stefanovic appeared pleased to see his former workmate, whom he had not been face-to-face with for around three years, at the Logie Awards nomination event.

“I haven’t seen her in person for a long time and I have nothing but love, there is a lot of water under the bridge,” Stefanovic said. “As I said to her and she said to me, it was great to see each other and wonderful to reflect on the great things that happened in our relationship and in our work environment. We move forward … move on.”

At the time of the book release in November, Wilkinson said: “What I’m really looking forward to is people seeing and understanding all – from the experiences which led up to where I am now and seeing it holistically and the way I’ve approached everything in my life with gratitude. And a desire to do good work and a desire to be just a good person and be a good mother and raise healthy children.

“And have a perspective on this weird thing called fame that I have struggled with because I am still Lisa from Campbelltown. I hope people can see beyond the one-dimensional character they have seen on TV.”
