KRIS Smith has paid tribute to his partner in fashion-crime, Jennifer Hawkins, whom he credits with teaching him everything he knows in the modelling world.
“She’s just incredible, she has helped me from day one because this was her life and her world,” he said following their Sydney runway show.
“When I stepped off a flight from the UK, my first ever real photo shoot was with Jen for Fitness First, and the theme of the shoot was that she was wearing my shirt from the night before.
“She was just in lingerie, and I’m topless with a tie around my neck, so you can imagine walking into a room with Miss Universe … I was sh … ing it and I think she picked up on that, and she helped me out a lot and she has continued to help me out over the years.”
Smith said Hawkins, who confirmed last month she would step down as Myer ambassador after a 12-year stint in the role, shared the same sense of humour as the UK-born former footballer.
“We get along very well. We banter well. She’s got a very wicked sense of humour,” Smith said.
“I remember once we were staying somewhere in the Outback, and my question was, ‘are there snakes around here? Are there spiders?’ So she somehow got some fake snakes and spiders and would hide them everywhere just so I would see them.
“She would also hide trail mix in your shoes and your pockets. Her sense of humour is very much like mine, so it’s been an absolute privilege and a blessing to work alongside her.
“She’s an incredible business woman, she’s an incredible human being. I’m sure whatever she chooses to do, she’ll be magnificent.”
