The gap between Sydney breakfast market leader Ben Fordham on the AM dial has tightened with top music station, KIIS FM.
Fordham’s 2GB breakfast show registered a 15.7 per cent share of the timeslot, down 3.2 percentage points but still well ahead of nearest rivals Kyle Sandilands and Jackie ‘O’ Henderson on KIIS with a 12.4 per cent share, up 1.1 percentage points.
It is the third of eight GfK radio ratings survey results for the year.
“It is always a battle but we’re pleased to still be number one,” Fordham told Confidential.
“I reckon the election campaign was a bit of a turn off. It was like watching two seagulls fighting over a hot chip. We’ve had a record start to 2022 and we’re up 16 per cent year on year. Thanks to the listeners for their ongoing loyalty.”
ABC Sydney has come in at third position with a share of 10.6 per cent (down 0.1), followed by Jonesy and Amanda on WSFM at 8.8 per cent (down 0.4), smoothfm at 6.8 per cent (up 0.9) and Nova 96.9’s Ryan ‘Fitzy’ Fitzgerald and Michael ‘Wippa’ Wipfli at six per cent (down 0.6).
2Day FM trio Dave Hughes, Erin Molan and Ed Kavalee came in at 4.3 per cent, a slight rise of 0.1 of a percentage point. It is a small rise but a win for the show as it marks the sixth consecutive ratings rise.
“Our show is a daily escape from the hectic juggle and we laugh through it all,” Molan told Confidential.
“We are real and raw … sometimes too much of each but we are doing something different, having a ball and love our listeners. At home, on the way to work or dropping the kids at school, we just want to laugh and have Sydney laugh with, or at, us.”
Across all stations, 2GB shed 1.3 percentage points to continue its lead with a 13 per cent share of the market, followed by KIIS at 9.2 per cent (down 0.4), smoothfm at 8.8 per cent (up 0.8) and WSFM at 8.6 per cent (up 0.2).
In mornings from 9am, 2GB’s Ray Hadley continued his long-time lead with a 16.5 per cent share, up 0.7 of a percentage point.
His nearest rivals were tied at nine per cent for smoothfm and KIIS.
“Thank you to all of the listeners for your continued support,” Hadley said on air.
“It is also our 141st consecutive survey and it is great to be back where we were previously. We had a little dip earlier in the year and we have climbed back to where we should be at 16.5.”
