TV and radio star Kate Ritchie doesn’t expect her 10-year-old daughter to try anything she wouldn’t herself.
Ritchie stepped out of her comfort zone at the weekend to play a friendly game of football with the Menai Hawks against Grays Point Possums.
The Nova 96.9 breakfast co-host even scored a goal with the game ending up a draw at Buckle Reserve, Menai, on Saturday afternoon.
“Everything I did was about proving to myself I could and committing to something hard,” Ritchie told Confidential.
“This year has been the first year of team sport for my daughter. I have seen her courage taking on this new challenge. I’ve seen the absolute joy on the field and the lessons learnt, even on the days when you’re not winning. I wanted some of that too.”
The former Home and Away star continued: “I also figured I needed to put my money where my mouth is and lead by example. I am always encouraging her to be brave, to have a go, to do hard things. What better way than to sign up for the Menai Hawks and take to the field myself?”
Ritchie’s daughter Mae was on the sideline, as were her parents, Steve and Heather, as well as Nova co-host Michael ‘Wippa’ Wipfli.
“What was exciting was to see her give it everything,” Wippa said.
“She hasn’t moved so much in 46 years, in fact, I don’t think she’s ever run before so tomorrow she is going to pull up pretty sore.”
