POPULAR radio duo Kate Langbroek and Dave “Hughesy” Hughes have taken a swipe at other on-air partnerships, claiming their longevity is due to their “talent”.
The comedy pair, who from Monday take over Hamish and Andy’s drive spot on 2DAY FM, are one of the longest running duos in the country.
They say the reason they’ve lasted the distance — while other radio shows have come and gone — is because they aren’t scared of ideas and language.
“There is a perception that what we do just happens. Like magic. But both of us are very good at what we do,” Langbroek said.

“We have a rigorous enjoyment of life, we’re not scared of ideas or of language. When people say, ‘You can’t do this,’ we don’t believe in that. And there are enough people who want the freedom to laugh with us and have a great time because, for f*** sake, we’re Australian.”
Hughes adds: “It takes talent — it’s as simple as that. We are very talented and I’m not being funny, I’m being serious.”
The two made headlines when they announced their switch from KIIS to 2DAY FM.
Hughes tells Confidential they decided to switch stations because “in negotiations with both parties, (they) were more attractive.”
Langbroek joked that after the announcement was made in October, the two were “looser” than ever on air, hoping to get put on gardening leave.
Instead of being taken off air their ratings “went through the roof” and they claimed the No. 1 spot in the seventh radio survey of last year.
“Let’s just say they weren’t getting any congratulatory text messages,” Hughes said of leaving KIIS.
For 2018 KIIS has replaced Hughes and Langbroek with Perth presenters Will McMahon and Woody Whitelaw.
