Karl Stefanovic’s wedding media deal may have sealed his fate

Embattled former Today host Karl Stefanovic was only recently boned from the morning breakfast show. Now, spies within Channel 9’s headquarters claim he will be booted from the network entirely come Easter.

Karl Stefanovic dumped from the Today Show

Gone by Easter.

That’s the grim forecast for embattled former Today host Karl Stefanovic just a few weeks after he was boned from breakfast.

Spies deep within Channel 9’s Willoughby headquarters claim the one-time network golden boy is well and truly in the crosshairs of Nine bosses and will be booted from the network entirely by Easter — and once again it is his extravagant Mexican wedding that is to blame.

More specifically, it is Stefanovic’s decision to do a media deal with Who Magazine — which splashed the extravagant nuptials across a whopping nine pages — that has stuck heavily in the craw of Nine’s top brass.

Stefanovic’s contract apparently states that no external deals are to be done with rival media organisations without the explicit blessing of management.

Turns out Stefanovic failed to clear the deal with the powers that be and now his bosses are gunning for him.

Stefanovic could potentially stand to lose the $6 million salary for his final two years at Channel 9 which would make his wedding to shoe designer Jasmine Yarbrough
a very costly one indeed.

Our strategically-placed insider also revealed that Nine bosses were less than pleased at Stefanovic’s bizarre airport meltdown on Christmas Day.

Nor did they appreciate his claim that his Instagram account was hacked after he “liked” several posts criticising the new Today Show line-up.

Simply put, they “didn’t buy it for a second”.

“Karl has to film the final segments for his show This Time Next Year at the end of February and that goes into most of March and after that … they want him gone,” said the source.

Stefanovic declined to comment when approached on Saturday but it’s understood his lawyers are “bracing” for any action from management.

Nine’s media spokeswoman, however, said the claim is “just not true” and insisted Nine was hoping to continue working with Stefanovic throughout the year.

Stefanovic’s replacement Deb Knight will start her new role alongside Georgie Gardner on Monday morning.
