Karl Stefanovic’s mother is quiet on his new romance with Jasmine Yarbrough

WHAT’S a mother to do when she pops out to do some grocery shopping and pick up the newspaper — only to find her son and his new girlfriend canoodling on the front page?

For TV host Karl Stefanovic’s mum Jenny yesterday, the answer was to simply walk out of Woolworths at Double Bay without buying the paper.

While the Today host’s mother is understood to be well aware of her famous son’s new relationship with LA-based model and shoe designer Jasmine Yarbrough, she is believed to be uncomfortable with it being front page news.

So it was little surprise then that she appeared somewhat stony-faced when she picked up yesterday’s The Sunday Telegraph to find photographs of the couple embracing as they celebrated a friend’s birthday on board luxury yacht Sahana­ on Sydney Harbour.

It was the first public outing for the new couple, who are understood to have met on the same vessel on a lavish cruise in December.

The new couple put on a very public display.

The embattled Nine host is then believed to have gone to visit Yarbrough in the US over his Christmas break.

It comes after Stefanovic’s 21-year marriage to Cassandra Thorburn imploded late last year.

It seems the new relationship is getting serious for Stefanovic, who is planning to take Yarbrough to his brother Peter Stefanovic’s wedding to Today colleague Sylvia Jeffreys in April. It is also understood Stefanovic­ plans to introduce the Brisbane-born 33-year-old to his children Jackson, 17, Ava, 11 and River, 10.

Stefanovic matriarch Jenny, who is based in Cairns, has been increasingly spending time in Sydney after her elder son’s marriage ended.

In the wake of the split, Thorburn signed with celebrity agent Max Markson.
