She’s usually pretty predictable when it come to her fashion choices, but Julie Bishop stepped out of her comfort zone, opting for a racy red dress at the InStyle Woman of the Year awards in Sydney on Wednesday night.

The former foreign minister turned heads in a body con, asymmetric, Grecian inspired ruby red dress by little known Perth designer Meraki Official.

Bishop, who usually opts for designer Rachel Gilbert, took to the stage to announce P.E. Nation designers Pip Edwards and Claire Tregoning as the winner of the Style Vanguard award at Wednesday night’s glitzy event.

After presenting the award, Bishop and her partner David Panton spent the night working the room, talking to guests including Home And Away actress Sam Frost.

Speaking to Confidential, she spoke about her new hair and who she thinks will win the federal election.

“New career, new hair. Short hair, don’t care”, she said.

“I would never write off the Coalition, that would be a very big mistake. I’m looking forward to the Coalition winning the election.

“It’s good to be able to stand back and watch it as I’m moving into my post-political career.”

The night recognised 10 “Future Shaping” women who had excelled in their fields, including culture, film, science, equality and human rights.
