After scoring an Oscar nomination for short film The Eleven O’Clock, actor Josh Lawson will begin shooting his second directorial feature effort in Sydney on Monday.
Lawson will also star in Long Story Short, which he wrote and which tells the story of a guy called Teddy who wakes up the morning after his wedding to discover every few minutes he’s jumping forward to the next year of his life.
“It really is a dream come true to be making this film with a cast and crew of this stellar caliber,” said Lawson, who is best known as an actor in Hollywood films including Anchorman and The Campaign.
“We’re all excited and grateful to be able to tell a story with such heart and positivity, and to set it in Sydney makes it all the sweeter.”
British actor Rafe Spall (The Big Short, Life of Pi, The BFG) will play Teddy while the cast includes Dena Kaplan, Noni Hazlehurst, Zahra Newman and Ronny Chieng.
“Josh’s screenplay is miraculous and I couldn’t be happier to be playing Teddy,” Spall said. “It’s wonderful to be staying with my family on Sydney’s stunning beaches and working with
such an amazing team of people.”
The Studiocanal and See Pictures film is being produced by Jamie Hilton, Michael Pontin and Isabel Stanfield with Lawson also on-board as executive producer alongside Sonia Borella, Josh Pomeranz, Charlie Tynan and Will Gammon.
“Josh is a remarkable comedic talent in front of and behind the camera,” Hilton said.
“To have Rafe Spall here in Australia supported by such an incredible Australian cast is a dream
situation. We look forward to working with Studiocanal to bring this movie to audiences the world over.”
