Jonathon Moran in chains in a water tank full of snakes and crocs for I’m A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here!

SYDNEY Confidential chief reporter Jonathon Moran had his own Houdini moment on the set of I’m A Celebrity Get Me Our OF Here! road testing one of the challenges.

I’VE given myself a new nickname — J. Moudini!

The latest I’m A Celebrity … Get Me Out Of Here! Tucker Trial — called Flash Flood — will see Chrissie Swan chained up in a fish tank as it is filled with water and creepy crawlies.

As the water rises, keys will be dropped down a shoot she can use to unlock the chains attached to her feet, ankles and hips.

Having tested the challenge for safety, I can report that it’s a frightening experience, not just because of the animals.

Wearing the I’m A Celebrity uniform of red shorts and a tank top, the chains are heavy and the leather straps dig in to your wrists and ankles as I filmed the promo for the challenge.

But it’s the gush of water rushing through the bottom of the tank that sent my adrenaline going and my heart beating.

It felt like standing in a fast rushing torrent of water and the noise was loud.

A key drops in and I fumble to find it at the bottom of the more than 10 foot deep tank.

Then come the animals, group by group. First came the large bullfrogs. They’re slimy but fine and I know they won’t hurt me.

Then came a couple of small Nile crocodiles, the bite ones, followed by a healthy looking batch of several Corn and Rat snakes.

To top off the delightful array of specialities joining me, about five baby anacondas were dropped in through the Perspex tube at the top of the tank.

As each animal fell, I could feel them thumping my back and head and splashing into the water.

Strangely, the critters didn’t bother me. They should have but there was too much going on and I was determined to hypothetically win as many stars for the camp as possible.

I blocked the animals out of my mind and all I thought about was the keys and the locks, which had to be hooked on the door. The faster I’d go, the quicker the water would rise.

It wasn’t long before I was diving down to find keys and attempt to unlock the chains. I’d take a deep breath (from those outside I was gasping loudly for air) and then dive back down.

Apparently I had an anaconda wrapped around my wrist for much of the challenge. I don’t actually remember that bit as I was in the zone.

I scored eight stars, not that it really matters as the whole thing was really more about pushing past my comfort zone and proving to myself I could do it.

For several hours afterwards, I could still feel the adrenaline coursing through my veins. It was a real rush and again, I felt a sense of achievement.

I would never do this at home, not that I would ever have the chance.
