Is Gosford the new Byron?

Millionaire ad man John Singleton seems to think so as he continues his bold bid to make the Central Coast cool — this week announcing he has signed a deal with celebrity chef Sean Connolly to oversee the restaurant in his Gosford development Bonython Tower.

Connolly, who already has his name attached to six major ventures including The Morrison in Sydney and Sean’s Kitchen in Adelaide, will take the helm at the soon-to-be-opened Bon Pavilion in the Gosford CBD.

Ultimately Singo hopes the bar and eatery will lure Sydney’s cashed-up weekend foodie crowd.

“Slowly but surely we will be able to transform this piece of paradise with great beaches into a foodie heaven,” Singleton said.

“(Connolly) has a belief of using local produce and suppliers and that’s something that really aligned with what we are trying to achieve on the Central Coast.”

The main Macquarie Media shareholder was less expansive when asked if rumours were true that former Today host Karl Stefanovic was eyeing an on-air gig at 2GB.

“I’m no longer involved in the programming or management of Macquarie radio. I am just a shareholder of the company,” said Singleton, who owns 32.4 per cent in Macquarie.

“I think that’s a better question for (CEO) Adam Lang.”
