Jesinta Franklin has opened up for the first time about her split from retail giant David Jones. The model and former ambassador told the latest addition of Marie Claire magazine (out today) that the decision to end their relationship at the end of last year came down to the contract.
“They offered me a contract, we negotiated it, and we just couldn’t agree on the terms, so we parted ways,” Franklin she said.
“I was really honoured they wanted to continue the relationship, but I’m at a point in my life where I know what I want and I’m not afraid to ask for it.”
Since her departure was announced, rumours started to swirl that Franklin’s asking fee was too high.
However, a friend of Franklin’s told Confidential her decision to leave had nothing to do with money but rather the stores control of her career.
“They wanted near full exclusivity over her projects across every category, from fashion to food, and it would have pigeonholed her too much,” they said.

Franklin’s exit from the store, which one fashion insider described as a “crazy business decision” by David Jones, means it now has no ambassadors based on home soil.
Both Victoria Lee and Jessica Gomes live in America and will fly in next week to commence publicity opportunities ahead of the store’s Autumn/Winter 2018 Collections launch next Wednesday night.
When approached for comment, David Jones provided the same statement it had released at the end of 2017, saying “while David Jones will be taking another direction, we are extremely grateful for Jesinta’s dedication and hard work” and it is “committed to its ambassador strategy and looks forward to the debut of its newest ambassador Victoria Lee, at the AW18 Collections launch”.
Meanwhile, Franklin is focusing on her ongoing relationships with Christian Dior, Moet & Chandon, Coach and Tiffany & Co, as well as Olay skincare.
