HOLLYWOOD action star Jean-Claude van Damme is understood to have spent the past few days based in Canberra, where he has been scouting locations to make at least two films.
He is expected today to attend Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull’s Budget lunch at the Sofitel Wentworth hotel and is also believed to be looking forward to meeting Foreign Affairs Minister Julie Bishop.
Van Damme, 57, has been a regular visitor Down Under over recent years. He’s previously made films here — Street Fighter — and on a visit in 2016 fell in love with the nation’s capital.
On that trip he met Australian politicians in Canberra, as well as visiting Broken Hill, where he scouted a potential location for an international wildlife conservation project to home rhinoceros, cheetahs and lions.
Van Damme’s big film credits include Kung Fu Panda, The Expendables, UFO, Kickboxer and Universal Soldier.
