James Packer spotted jogging in France after major weight loss

Australian billionaire James Packer has been spotted out and about in Europe after undergoing a major transformation.

'End of an era' for Packer family

Billionaire James Packer is looking healthier than he has done in years, reaping the benefits of a drastic 33kg weight loss.

The 54-year-old businessman cut a noticeably slimmer figure in pictures taken on Monday, as he jogged around the picturesque resort town Antibes in the French Riviera.

Sporting a loose-fitting black T-shirt, trackies, and trainers, he returned to his $283 million superyacht moored in the marina.

Packer earlier revealed in June that he was ready to start the “third act” of his life, as he plans a return to his home city of Sydney.

“I’m roughly 130kg now and want to be back to 100kg by the end of 2022. I want to swim with my kids at Bondi when we’re all in Sydney together next year and be 100kg,” he told The Weekend Australian from his home in Mexico.

Channel 7’s celebrity nutritionist Sarah Di Lorenzo said given Packer has lost 33kg, and intends to lose about another 30 by Christmas, he is likely to be losing about a kilo a week. “In my opinion, that’s a healthy weight loss programme,” she said.

“To be doing that, he’d have to be doing daily cardiovascular exercise, staying well hydrated, and most likely doing a low carb, high protein diet, something like keto.”

That would amount to a strict limit of 1000-1200 calories per day, she added.

Of course, he’d likely have “a whole team” of experts supporting that journey, including at least a personal trainer, a nutritionally-focussed chef, and some kind of motivational coach.

“For someone like him, alcohol’s one of the best things you can cut out to lose weight,” Di Lorenzo said.

She estimates by giving up booze alone, Packer would have dropped 6kgs in the first week because of its fluid retention.

“He’s had surgery in the past, but for the first time in his life, it sounds like he’s doing it properly by developing a healthy relationship with food. I’m actually quite proud of him. He’s using all the approaches I’d recommend.”

Speaking to the Sydney Morning Herald in June, Packer said he had managed to drop 33kg by going sober, limiting his calorie intake and exercising daily.

“Life is pretty good right now,” he told the newspaper. “My mental health is the best it’s ever been.”

Packer admitted to The Australian that “it hasn’t been appropriate for (him) to be in Australia for the last few years,” amid years of scandals at Crown Casino, but he was “very much looking forward to seeing Crown Sydney”.

The company has been embroiled in a series of scandals, including staff getting jailed in China, inquiries into the company regarding links to criminal gangs, and allegations of money laundering.

He previously owned a major stake in the casino, but sold Crown to private investment company Blackstone for $8.9billion, meaning it is now a private company that isn’t required to report to the ASX.

The deal was finalised on June 24, with Packer pocketing $3.3billion in the process.

Last week, he was seen working out on-board his yacht, perhaps working off the partying he did with actor and business partner Robert De Niro in Italy.
