Radio star Jackie ‘O’ Henderson was left red-faced on Sunday night after an incorrect guess on The Masked Singer turned out to be her longtime co-host Kyle Sandilands.
Sandilands made a surprise appearance after performing Train’s Drops of Jupiter as Paw Patrol’s Rubble character and Henderson failed to recognise her colleague’s voice.
“This is the worst you can get, I’m never living this down. This is so embarrassing,” Henderson said.
“I can’t believe you did this. When you were singing, there was a flash of you in my mind, but then I was like, ‘No’. You never even let on once. We work together every morning, I’ve been telling you about Masked Singer every day. All the while, you knew you were going to be on it.
Henderson and fellow judges Dave Hughes, Dannii Minogue and Urzila Carlson thought that Rubble was an actor, with guesses including Russell Crowe and Guy Pearce.
US singer Macy Gray was also unmasked as Atlantis during Sunday’s episode.
Channel 10 previously responded to questions about flying in international celebrities to appear on the entertainment show during the pandemic, while more than 30,000 Australians remain stranded overseas.
In a statement, a Network 10 spokeswoman said, “The Masked Singer Australia includes some international celebrities as part of the cast, who are set to be unmasked when the series airs next month.
“Their time in Australia was permitted under the government rules and regulations for international artists arriving in Australia, and these arrangements exist outside of the flight cap on international arrivals.
“They did not take the place of any Australian citizens returning home and they completed the necessary quarantine requirements upon arrival. Network 10 and Warner Bros. are committed to providing employment to artists and production industries during this challenging time.”
