‘Influencer’ Suzan Mutesi denies gatecrashing the Logies red carpet

Organisers and TV networks say they didn’t invite her, but this Sydney influencer made Logies best dressed lists after hitting the red carpet ... from the exit. Here’s what she had to say.

Influencer Suzan Mutesi somehow made her way onto Logies best-dressed lists around the world, despite not even being invited on to the renowned red carpet.

Early reports from TV’s night of nights noted it was strange that Mutesi, 37, was walking the red carpet backwards.

The Daily Telegraph can reveal how she may have managed it.

While celebrities such as Gold Logie winner Sonia Kruger, actors Chloe Hayden and Ayesha Madon, musician GFlip, and Jackie ‘O’ Henderson entered from The Star’s main entrance at the left, Mutesi came in with the general public on the right, talking her way past a bouncer at the exit of the carpet.

“Mutesi was not invited to the event, but walked the red carpet. She was not a guest in the ceremony,” a spokesperson for The TV Week Logie Awards said.

Channel 7 and Channel 10’s heads of publicity both confirmed that Mutesi, who featured in one episode of Channel 10’s The Challenge Australia, was not on their guest lists.

Mutesi changed her story multiple times throughout Tuesday.

In a morning interview, she claimed she wasn’t seated inside the ceremony at a table with her “many famous friends” because she was unwell.

“I didn’t go close to the tables. I stayed up in the foyers because of the nausea,” she said.

“I had friends who were doing interviews and media, so I decided not to sit on any tables just in case, and viewed from the top.”

The seats in the upper level of The Star theatre were reserved for members of the general public, who had purchased $99 tickets.

“Um, who I was sitting with?” Mutesi continued ... “I was sitting with my stylist. There was a few people, I can’t remember. I watched the start of it, until Amy Shark performed and then I left because my stomach was hurting.”

“I know most of those people [on the red carpet]. I don’t have to publicise my relationships with them. I didn’t do any interviews because I’ve been on so many red carpets. I always feel like I should give the limelight to whoever needs it.”

By late afternoon, Mutesi admitted she sat upstairs because she’d been gifted a GA ticket.

“A media friend bought my general admission tickets, but I was invited to go on the red carpet,” Mutesi told the Telegraph.

She would not specify which friend had invited her.

Celebrity stylist Jamie Azzopardi was walking their clients to the carpet entrance when they spotted Mutesi.

“She was really rude. The security guard asked if she had her pass. She didn’t. She said don’t you know who I am?” Azzopardi said.

“Suzan said ‘my publicist is over there’, and the guard said ‘you’ll need to go and get it, or get your publicist to come here and let me know.’ He was just baffled and let her through.”

SoDramatic! reported that at least three celebrity sources had witnessed this altercation.

“I was picking up my phone from a photographer who was doing a little photo for me when I did the runway,” Mutesi said of why she walked the red carpet from its exit, rather than from the entrance with all the other celebrity guests.

“Then Jessica [Rowe] called me in for a hug, and I left.”

Mutesi has been dubbed Sydney’s “sham” influencer on numerous occasions, accused of purchasing her 1.2 million Instagram followers (which she denies), and elaborate photoshopping. More recently, she was snapped crying beside her broken down Mazda outside Australian Fashion Week in a $20 dress.

When contacted to clarify whether or not Mutesi ‘crashed’ the carpet, manager Max Markson said: “If she did, she did an amazing job because she did better credit with her picture in media across the world than anybody else attending the Logies.”
