Lara Worthington has revealed that motherhood was the key to overcoming the body confidence issues that plagued her through her 20s.
“Before I had kids, I was always trying to get skinny or be a certain weight,” Worthington, nee Bingle, tells the latest issue of Marie Claire magazine out on Thursday.
“My mind was so focused on that and then the moment I just let myself be happy in my body and had kids it really changed for me.
“I feel like my whole early 20s were just so centred on body issues.”
The 33-year-old wife of Avatar star Sam Worthington is mum to Rocket, four, Racer, three, and a newborn, whose name is yet to be revealed.
“Having a baby changed my body for the better,” she said.
“It’s like my body was meant to have kids, and maybe that’s why I’ve had so many and would happily have more.
“Maybe it’s just that I’m a mum of three boys and I’m completely run off my feet every day running after them.
“Maybe it’s just because I have them to think about. Having a child is the most selfless thing you can do.”
Worthington is still most famous for fronting the controversial 2006 Tourism Australia campaign So Where The Bloody Hell Are You?
She is also known for her past relationship with cricket great Michael Clarke.
Of family life with her Avatar star husband, she said: “We work together really well.”
“We’re lucky we have each other … I think that’s why we keep having more kids because it’s a very enjoyable family.
“We’re happy, and the kids are happy, and Sam is super present.
“We’re a very tight-knit family. Sam and I are not those people that are like, ‘Oh let’s leave the kids with someone and go away, you and me, for the weekend.’
“We’re totally the opposite. We’re all in.”
