It is a storm in a G-string and at the centre of it — a “clearly shaved pubis”.

Raunchy women’s lingerie retailer Honey Birdette is vowing to stick to its guns after coming under fire, again, from lobby groups over its most recent ad campaign.

“Sinful, corruptive” and “satanic” are just a few of the critiques levelled at the retailer known for its exotic lingerie and swimwear, with one complaint singling out an ad which they claim displays “a clearly shaved pubis”.

However, company boss Eloise Monaghan, an openly gay woman who describes herself as an “absolute feminist”, is digging in over the ads and referred to the recent case in Sydney which saw a woman asked to cover her bikini while using an apartment complex pool.

“Can you imagine a man being asked to cover up while wearing swimwear,” says Monaghan, who believes Australia is suffering from a “conservative dial back”.

“We are a lingerie company and unfortunately for some people that means showing images of women wearing our lingerie.

“The limits being put on what we can and can’t show now is getting out of control. It feels like the Middle East.”

The attempt at censorship is the latest in a long list of controversies to fall upon the retail chain, which has also dealt with accusations of a bullying work culture and a current legal dispute in the Queensland Supreme Court.

However it’s not all bad for Monaghan and wife Natalie, with the pair recently snapping up a stunning Surry Hills penthouse for just over $3 million.
