Home and Away star Ray Meagher lifts lid on Gold Logie race
Aussie soap veteran Ray Meagher, the man behind Alf Stewart, has revealed who he thinks will take the Logies’ top gong as he stepped out with a waxwork twin.

Home and Away stalwart Ray Meagher has met his match by way of his waxwork likeness days out from Australian television’s biggest night, the annual Logie Awards.
“You could say I am taking voting for myself to whole new level,” Meagher told The Daily Telegraph.
More seriously, Meagher said he “doesn’t know how to do any of that” regarding voting for the coveted Gold Logie, for which he is up against the likes of Julia Morris, Sonia Kruger, Karl Stefanovic, Hamish Blake, Melissa Leong and Tom Gleeson.
Meagher, who turns 78 next month, has been a much loved fixture on our TV screens for decades playing Alf Stewart on the soap and won the Gold trophy back in 2010.
His Madame Tussauds waxwork on Tuesday made its way to Sydney's Palm Beach, where the fictional Home and Away town of Summer Bay is shot.
“I honestly think I am making up the numbers this year,” he said of the nomination.
“Everybody has worked incredibly hard through the Covid period and for our show to be nominated six times is just fantastic and it is a reflection of everybody in the cast and crew.”
It is the first Logies in three years with the 2020 and 2021 events having been cancelled due to the pandemic.
Meagher has tipped Lego Masters host Blake to win the award.
“I thought something in mauve might be nice,” he joked when asked what he will wear on the red carpet at the Gold Coast Convention Centre on Sunday.
“I think it will be common black and white for me … probably the same one I wore the last time the Logies were on, it hasn't had much wear in the last couple of years.”
The Gold Logie is voted for by the general public with major TV networks and stars themselves often driving a campaign to win.
Meagher however does not have any social media accounts to help push his nomination.
“I have never been on social media, I don’t use any of it and I think at this tender age, I probably won’t bother starting,” he said.
“I just could never get the hang of showing cleaning your teeth, like who would be bloody interested? However I do understand now, after about 1000 years, that it is a great way to keep in touch with people.”
