Home And Away: Hunk Matt Evans reveals why he’s unlucky in love

Singer turned Home And Away star Matt Evans writes a lot of love songs but he claims it still hasn't helped him in the relationship department.

After putting singing to one side to focus on acting, Home And Away’s resident hottie Matt Evans will bring his two loves together on the TV soap.

Evans first became known publicly as a contestant on reality singing show, The Voice, when he made it through to the top 20 under the guidance of former coach Delta Goodrem.

Home And Away though is what brought the 25-year-old national fame with the show writers set to include his music in upcoming storylines for his character, Theo Poulos.

“That is super exciting for me because it is really nice to have both of the worlds combine,” Evans told Confidential. “It has been hard almost letting go of music by just doing the acting for a while so it is really nice to be able to do both.”

Evans is a graduate of music from the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts (WAAPA), which is where the likes of Hugh Jackman, Lisa McCune and Lucy Durack studied acting.

“Music is for me like a second language and way to express myself,” he said.

“Music was the first thing that I found in my life where I opened up my artistic side and realised that I was more of a creative than a footballer player, which is what I thought I would be when I was younger. It freed me and helped me become who I am today. It is a big release for me.”

He added: “I loved football as a kid and I was really good at it then but as I moved through high school, I kind of realised that I wasn’t as testosterone fuelled as all the other boys and I wasn’t really into the full contact sport thing anymore.”

Musically when songwriting, Evans said he is drawn to love songs.

“I do write a lot of love songs, which is funny because I haven’t had many girlfriends and I don’t really fall in love very easily,” he said.

“I think it just feels natural to speak my mind through music whereas I struggle in real life sometimes.”

With that in mind, Evans is single.

“There is nobody on the horizon at the moment,” he said.
