Hollywood actor, Rebel Wilson, has been announced as the new face of Tourism Fiji.
After being closed to international travellers for almost two years due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the holiday hot spot is finally set to reopen its borders on December 1 and Wilson has joined the campaign designed to boost international travel in a deal rumoured to be worth seven figures.
Insiders told Confidential that the partnership could be akin to Chris Hemsworth’s 2016 deal with Tourism Australia, in which he was reportedly paid $1.25 million to be a global ambassador for two years.
“It’s a really smart thing for them to do because she’s Australian and Fiji is a popular holiday spot for Australians. It’s a great way to target the Australian market,” one celebrity agent said.
Tourism Fiji declined to comment on the specifics of the deal, only saying they are thrilled to have Wilson, 41, on board.
“The campaign is called ‘Open for Happiness’, and reflects exactly what Fiji does like nowhere else in the world - welcome our guests with a genuine warmth and Bula spirit that will leave you in love with Fiji and its people,” Brent Hill, CEO of Tourism Fiji, said.
The Pitch Perfect star and her team were recently hosted at the 5-star Vomo Resort, where Beachfront villas can cost upwards of $3,000 per night.
The campaign is set to officially launch in two weeks and Wilson has been contracted to promote Fiji well into 2022.
Over the week Wilson enjoyed a range of experiences that tourists coming to Fiji can look forward to - from snorkelling on amazing reefs, to slipping across clear blue water, chopper flights over the Islands, hikes and treks, and enjoying the warm hospitality that Fiji is famous for.
“We look forward to shortly sharing the full campaign and showing what Rebel got up to during her time here in Fiji,” Hill said.
Wilson joins a long list of celebrities, including Prince Harry and Meghan Markle and media mogul Oprah Winfrey, who are also fans of the popular tourist destination.
The A-list star, who recently dropped 35 kilos, shared sunny snaps of her holiday on social media.
“Discovering happiness and sooooo much more (to be revealed soon),” Wilson captioned one photo.
Wilson, who lives in Los Angeles, has come a long way from Sydney’s Western suburbs and has starred in several blockbuster films over the years including Bridesmaids and Isn’t It Romantic with Liam Hemsworth.
She continues to expand her business empire which includes lucrative partnerships with UberEats, Afterpay and vitamin brand Olly.
She also landed a publishing deal with Hachette and released a children’s book Bella the Brave last month.
Wilson is now exploring the idea of writing a motivational book to document the process of how she lost weight.
The comedian decided to kick start her weight loss journey last year as part of her fertility journey and said initially some of her Hollywood team were against the idea.
“Originally I will say some of my Hollywood team weren’t that on board with [me] losing weight... but I think once they knew that was my plan and that’s what I was going to do they were all onboard,” she previously said on Instagram live.
“You just get the occasional idiot going, ‘Will you still be funny if you lost weight’? well losing weight does not change your personality and a lot of the jokes come from [the mind] not [the body].”
