Thor star Chris Hemsworth and his wife Elsa Pataky have pledged $1 million towards bushfire relief.
The Hollywood actor fought back tears as he urged fans to donate as much as possible in a video message on social media.
“Hi everyone. Like you, I want to support the fight against the bushfires here in Australia,” he wrote.
“My family and I are contributing a million dollars. Hopefully you guys can chip in too. Every penny counts so whatever you can muster up is greatly appreciated.”
Hemsworth said the money donated will go directly towards “firefighters, people on the frontline, people who have suffered and communities who have taken a hit.”
The generous donation comes two weeks after the father-of-three was forced to defend himself against false reports about water usage at his Byron Bay home.

Fans were left outraged when The Sydney Morning Herald claimed Hemsworth and Pataky had a “fleet of water trucks” deliver H20 to their $20 million mansion to maintain their “$1 million garden”, but he furiously denied the claims which were repeated in The Daily Mail.
“This is a complete lie. Normally I wouldn’t respond to false articles like this but it bothers me a lot,” Hemsworth wrote on social media.
“The water truck was purely for drinking water because like everyone in the region who is not connected to town water we have run out of potable water due to the drought.
“NONE of my garden is fed by drinking water. Thanks for your concern #dailymail and thanks for adding more distress to an already brutal situation the whole country is dealing with. Merry Xmas.”
Hemsworth and Pataky join the likes of Nicole Kidman, Keith Urban, singer P!nk and Celeste Barber who have all made generous donations to bushfire heroes.
