Hogan can’t escape one famous Crocodile Dundee line

PAUL Hogan has revealed he can’t escape one of the most famous lines in movie history — the moment he wards off a would-be mugging in New York by pulling out a massive hunting knife.

ACTOR Paul Hogan said he cannot escape his famous Crocodile Dundee line: “That’s not a knife, that’s a knife.”

The Aussie star said the line from the 1986 movie follows him every time he dines out.

Hoges revealed last night that chefs the world over like nothing better than coming from the kitchen armed with a large knife and delivering the famous line at his table.

“I would go to a restaurant in Japan or Mexico, inevitably the chef would come out with his big knife (saying), ‘That’s not a knife, that’s a knife,’ ” he told Channel 7’s Sunday Night.

“And they were pleased with themselves like they thought it up first.”

Despite the repetition, Hoges said he never gets sick of the line.

He said when he was writing the movie the idea behind the line came from reacting with humour to a potentially violent situation.

“To me it was an idea of saying instead of stabbing somebody, repel an attack with humour.”
