The Veronicas are back on home soil for the first time since joining the great Australian pop exodus to America to relaunch their global career.
Jess and Lisa Origliasso are headlining Elevate music festival on The Cahill Expressway Friday night, alongside synth-pop singer Betty Who, and New Zealand pop-R & B outfit Drax Project.
“We are currently in the studio finishing our new record in Los Angeles. We have another month left, and have exciting plans in the works for our international fans, but we will always prioritise our fans back home,” they told The Daily Telegraph before boarding a plane to Sydney on Thursday.
The beloved Untouched and 4ever singers signed with American pop punk powerhouse Big Noise, after parting ways with Sony Music in 2022 when their seven-year contract ended.
“We’re focusing on writing rock and dance anthem bangers for this record! A lot of energy, guitars, and some crazy collabs,” they continued. “So as soon as the new music is ready, we can’t wait to bring it to everyone back home.”
The twins based their career in Australia for much of the past six years as they cared for their mother Colleen after she was diagnosed with progressive supranuclear palsy. She died in September last year.
Both sisters have American partners; Lisa is married to actor Logan Hoffman and Jess recently became engaged to her girlfriend Alex Smith.
“In the meantime we are excited to be back home for a quick trip to see all our Aussie friends and fans for Elevate. The location alone is like no other festival. It celebrates all things Australian: Music, beautiful views, drinks and dancing with your mates,” they said.
Contrary to recent marks made by US rapper Azealia Banks, the twins maintain that Aussie crowds are unequivocally “the best in the world”.
“Whenever we talk to other artists they always say Australia has hands down the most wild and enthusiastic crowds. They always sing along and are ready to get loud. There’s no better feeling than seeing people immerse themselves in the music.”
