Erin Molan welled up with tears as she shared her admiration for her father, Senator Jim Molan, on radio this morning.
Molan, who co-hosts The Morning Crew with Ed Kavalee and David Hughes, interviewed her father, a former Major General in the Australian Army, ahead of Anzac Day.
However when the topic of her father’s recent aggressive cancer diagnosis came up, Molan couldn’t hold back the emotion.
“I will get emotional because people will be aware we got some sad medical news a few weeks ago, but I’ve always been so immensely proud of Dad. He’s lived an entire life of service to others and I’ve grown up looking at him like he’s my hero. He’s my best friend and we speak every single day,” she said.
“For my siblings and I, we couldn’t be more proud of the person he is. He cares deeply about this country. He cares deeply about the defence of this country, and every single person in it.”
“I couldn’t love him more and I’m so incredibly proud of him. He’s an absolute fighter and when we were hit with the news, all we wanted was hope, and we got hope and there is no one I would back more to beat this fight because we need him too. We love you Dad so much.”
Jim, 71, told the 2dayFM program he’s received thousands of well wishes since.
“I’ve got thousands of good wishes from people and I’m working my way through thanking them all, but I hope I can thank them all, but it’s been extraordinary,” he said.
He also thanked his family for their support.
“It reminds you in times like this, the extraordinary support families give … it reminds you of what is important in the world.”
To mark Anzac Day, Molan also shared a black and white photo of her 17-year-old Dad as he left to join the Army.
