Hemsworth’s secret advice to cousin before soap debut revealed

When Luke Van Os landed his debut role on Home and Away, he reached out to Hollywood star Chris Hemsworth, who also got his start on the show. SEE WHAT HE SAID

Home and Away star Luke Van Os says that while many actors refuse to watch themselves on screen, he finds it a valuable tool to better himself as an actor.

Confidential announced the actor’s casting on the hugely popular TV soap in October and it is only now that the 25-year-old has made his on screen debut as paramedic Xander.

“It is definitely difficult to watch yourself,” Van Os told Confidential.

“We are our own worst critics but I think if you can learn to watch yourself in a constructive way, analyse it and get better, that is the point.”

Van Os’ late father Robert is the brother of Hemsworth’s mum Leonie. He moved from Melbourne to Sydney when he scored the soap role.

Hemsworth, who got his start in the industry playing Kim Hyde on Home and Away, and his actor siblings Luke and Liam have mentored their cousin with his new breakthrough acting job on the high profile show.

“Chris is in LA but he watched my interviews on The Morning Show and Sunrise. I spoke to him right before because I was so nervous,” Van Os said.

“He loves it. He has been through everything I am going through now so for him to share that experience I think is really exciting.

“Liam and Luke have been a huge support as well.

“This industry is so tricky and can be so hard to navigate so to have any sort of solid advice from anyone who has been through it is such a blessing.”

As for what advice his super famous cousin imparted, Van Os continued: “Just be calm. And embrace it, know that the nerves never go away, it is becoming comfortable with the nerves as opposed to fearing them.

“Embrace it and know that it is a comfortable place to be. Just be yourself, don’t try and be anything you are not.”
